This introductory presentation will review and define the use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), basic assessment, and affirming practices when serving autistic clients and their families. We will discuss child led therapy, gestalt language processing, and part time AAC use.
Speaker:
Dr. Stephanie Meehan is a licensed speech-language pathologist who has specialized in the area of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) for over 10 years. She was previously co-director of the Russell Pardee Research and Resource Laboratory at the University of Kansas while on faculty in the Speech-Language Hearing Department. Dr. Meehan has presented nationally and internationally on research and clinical issues related to AAC. Her research interests are related to pre-service speech-language pathologists training and foundational knowledge in AAC as well as school-based AAC services.
