About

Dr. Hamstra-Wright is a Clinical Professor and Co-Director of the Applied Sports Psychology and Injury Research and Education (ASPIRE) Lab in the Department of Kinesiology and Nutrition. Dr. Hamstra-Wright is a certified athletic trainer with doctoral and post-doctoral training in lower extremity biomechanics. Her research focuses on the prevention and treatment of lower extremity overuse injuries in active populations, mental skills training for injured athletes, and sport injury epidemiology. Dr. Hamstra-Wright teaches courses in applied anatomy, musculoskeletal injury, and holistic wellness. She has been a faculty member at numerous institutions with her longest tenure at UIC. Dr. Hamstra-Wright also has experience outside of academia working as an athletic trainer, director of operations, and wellness coach, experiences she brings to the classroom and her research.
