About

Orit Schwartz MS OTR/L is a clinical instructor in the undergraduate Rehabilitation Sciences program. Orit is interested in community-based services and participatory approaches to educational and clinical work. Orit began her career as an adult educator with a focus on adult and family literacy. She taught, developed programs and trained literacy educators at the Howard Area Community Center and other Chicago based CBOs. After becoming an occupational therapist, Orit continued working with children and families in the Chicago Public Schools and through the early intervention system. Most recently, Orit has been an early intervention provider in the Child and Family Development Center at UIC.

Orit received an MA in Adult Education from National Luis University, where she later taught courses as an adjunct instructor, and an MS in Occupational Therapy from UIC. Orit has taught in the undergraduate rehabilitation sciences program since January 2017 and she is currently pursuing a PhD in Disability Studies at UIC.

Service to Community

Orit is working with the Hyde Park Refugee Project and with Bethany House, two local community groups dedicated to assisting asylum seekers and resettlement of refugee families in the Hyde Park neighborhood in Chicago.
