Urban Health Program

The UIC Urban Health Program (UHP) was established in 1978, to recruit and support students from underrepresented minority groups, specifically African Americans, Latinos, and Native Americans, into graduate and professional degree programs leading to health-related careers. At the center of its mission, UHP has a goal of developing a pipeline of underrepresented health professionals dedicated to improving the quality and availability of healthcare in undeserved urban areas.

Each of the UIC health science colleges houses a UHP office and collaborates with the UIC Graduate College to develop programs and activities to support our students’ development as professionals. In addition, UHP offices provide dedicated support and resources related to the recruitment and retention of our students.
