“How Disability Shaped the Field of Clinical Ethics”
Clinical ethics took off in the late 1960’s with advancements in medical technologies that shifted the conversation from “can we” to “should we.” Many of the thorniest ethics questions have involved issues of disability. In this talk I will provide:
1. A brief overview of key neurological cases involving questions of disability that shaped the field
2. The cultural divides these cases exposed
3. And suggestions for how health professions can bridge the divide
