Allison Anderson and Jill Prough are awarded the 2019 Outstanding Dietetic Student Award

Allison Anderson and Jill Prough were awarded the 2019 Outstanding Dietetic Student Award by the Chicago Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The purpose of the Outstanding Dietetics Student Award program is to recognize the emerging leadership and achievement of students in ACEND-accredited and approved dietetics education programs and encourage their participation in the American Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Allison Anderson, a first-year graduate student in the Master’s Coordinated Program in Nutrition was identified as a recipient based on her ability to be community-centered and caring, attributes that will assist her as she enters her career as a registered dietitian. An avid reader and learner, she created and is the lead organizer for a nutrition focused book club for nutrition students on campus. Outside of extra-curricular activities she serves as the lead graduate assistant for student learning in the Academic Support and Achievement Program, the AHS learning center for undergraduates at UIC. Here, she shows her passion for coaching as she mentors tutors and undergraduate students needing academic support.

Jill Prough is a second-year graduate student in the Master’s Coordinated Program in Nutrition. Jill was also nominated for the 2019 Illinois Academy of Dietetics Outstanding Student Award. She was chosen as a recipient based on attributes that include an exceptional work ethic as both a student and employee, her contributions as a student leader, and for maintaining a reliably positive mindset through the demands of work and study. Jill serves as a teaching assistant at UIC and as president for UIC’s Student Nutrition Association. Additionally, she works in the dietary office at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center and volunteers at the UIC Nutrition Teaching Garden.  Jill’s kind and caring spirit is infectious and she is quick to offer encouragement and support to her peers. These qualities will benefit those she serves in her future career as a Registered Dietitian.

Congratulations to Allison and Jill for receiving the Outstanding Dietetic Student Award!
