Eduardo Bustamante, David Marquez and Jinsong Chen are co-authors on a paper published in BMC Public Health. “Developmental disparities in sedentary time by period of the day among US youth: a cross-sectional study” is the first paper to test sedentary time disparities between developmental stage by period of the day.

Researchers studied sedentary time (ST) for children and adolescents throughout the day. They determined the times of day when children (6-12 year olds) are more active than adolescents (13-18 year olds) and when adolescents are more active than children. Their findings suggest future interventions should take greater focus on certain periods of the day to reduce ST in adolescents and children.
