Figuring UIC Post Professional OTD Credits
Introduction
Need 68 credits total to earn an OTD at UIC
Transfer in (if you have an MS or Doc degree or have taken previous MS level courses):
Master’s degree transfers up to 32 credits
If an OTD student has relevant graduate coursework not applied to an earned graduate degree, they may petition for up to 4 credits to be applied toward OTD elective credits
36 LEFT if no additional transfers to Master’s 32
68 LEFT if Bachelor’s with no transfers in
OTD Degree Requirements:
Required OT Theory and OT Research courses if not transferring in from Master’s (up to 8 credits if need/want to take in OT, or you need to show proof you took the equivalent elsewhere)
Doctoral Proseminar: 2 (minimum, can do more)
Seminar in OT (attend outside lectures and submit to Joy): 1 (can transfer this in from UIC Master’s)
Advanced Field Practicum: 4-12 credits (minimum 4)
Field Exam: 3 credits ( up to 3 credits of independent studies with three UIC committee members only)
OT Doctoral Project: 12 credits
Elective credits to get to 68 in addition to above:
(Required theory and research are needed if you haven’t already taken in your Master’s program)
14 LEFT if transferring in MS 32 credits only (assuming minimum credits for above on all; OT Theory and OT Research can count towards these if not taken previously)
46 LEFT if coming in BS with no Master’s Credits (OT Theory & OT Research can count towards these if not taken previously in BS)
