What you'll submit
UIC Admissions sets the application requirements, and the BS in DHD adds none. Select the “BS in Disability and Human Development” as your program in the UIC application. You don’t apply to the program separately.
Transfer applicants submit:
- The UIC application
- The $70 nonrefundable application fee or a fee waiver
- Official transcripts from every college or university attended, sent electronically or by mail
- High school transcripts, if you will have earned fewer than 25 semester hours by the time you enroll
- A $100 nonrefundable international credential evaluation fee, if you have coursework from outside the United States
First-year applicants: See UIC’s first-year requirements for the full list of materials.
UIC students: Submit the AHS intercollege transfer application.
What to know before you apply
Requirements vary by how you’re applying. Review the category that fits you below.
Am I a first-year applicant, and what do I need?
You’re a first-year applicant if you’re applying while still in high school or if you’ve graduated from high school but haven’t yet attended college. If you will have earned fewer than 25 semester hours of college credit by the time you enroll, you also apply as a first-year applicant and submit your college transcripts.
The BS in DHD has no requirements beyond UIC’s general entrance requirements. If you meet those, you meet the program’s requirements.
Am I a transfer applicant, and what do I need?
You’re a transfer applicant if you will have earned at least 25 semester hours of college credit by the time you enroll. If you will have fewer than 25, you can still apply. You apply like a first-year applicant and submit your high school transcripts as well as your college transcripts.
To apply as a transfer applicant, you need:
- At least 25 semester hours of college credit by the time you enroll
- A minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
You can transfer in more than 60 semester hours. To earn your bachelor’s degree, though, you must complete at least 60 semester hours at a four-year institution, no matter how many hours you transfer. Hours from another four-year school count toward that 60. For example, if you transfer 75 community college hours, you still complete 60 more hours at UIC, even if your total then exceeds the hours your degree requires.
The BS in DHD has no requirements beyond these and UIC’s general transfer requirements.
Can I transfer from another UIC program?
Yes. We welcome transfer students from all UIC programs. If you’re currently a first-year or sophomore student at UIC, you can apply as an intercollege transfer. You need:
- At least one completed semester of coursework at UIC
- A minimum UIC GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale, including transfer credit from other institutions
- Good academic standing
Review timing: We review applications once grades post at the end of the semester. You’ll receive a decision by email about 10 to 14 business days after grades post. See the UIC academic calendar for grade posting dates.
How to apply: Submit the AHS intercollege transfer application.
Can I transfer from another UIC program?
If you want to apply to the Honors College or Guaranteed Professional Program Admissions (GPPA), you must first be admitted to UIC as an undergraduate. Deadlines are the same for every program.
Honors College and GPPA applicants also submit an essay for each program with their application and two recommendations through the Common Application or by mail. GPPA decisions are generally released on the first Monday of March. The Honors College manages its own notifications and decisions.
What do international applicants need?
If English isn’t your native language, you’ll need to submit TOEFL iBT, IELTS Academic or PTE Academic scores unless you qualify for an exemption. Review UIC’s undergraduate international requirements to see whether you do.
Send your scores directly to UIC using institutional code 1851.
- TOEFL iBT: minimum total score of 80
- IELTS Academic: minimum overall score of 6.5
- PTE Academic: minimum overall score of 54
Scores below these minimums don’t automatically disqualify your application.

Tuition and aid
Visit our college tuition and aid page for the most up-to-date information.Â
Review your funding options before you apply. UIC offers financial aid to first-year, transfer and continuing students.
You can complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) before you apply. Use UIC’s school code, 001776. Many scholarships and grants have earlier deadlines than the admission deadline so get a head start. First-year applicants who apply by the early action deadline are likely to receive the fullest consideration for scholarships.
What happens after you apply
Once Admissions enters a decision, the application portal is updated and an official decision letter is mailed.
